Northern High School Scholarships
Christopher Furr Scholarship
Friends and family established the Christopher Furr Scholarship to honor his memory in 1987. The applicant must be a graduating senior from Northern High School who has demonstrated citizenship and responsibility in the school and community and been involved in extra-curricular activities. Requires 2.5 GPA and acceptance into an accredited college or university.
Norma Russell Scholarship
Each year, Northern High School awards the Norma Russell Memorial Scholarship in memory of Norma, who was an NHS student. Norma gained the respect and admiration of her peers and teachers through her warm and friendly personality and her active involvement in the school and community. Friends and family established the scholarship to honor her memory in 1986. Applicants must have demonstrated citizenship and responsibility in the school and community and been involved in extra-curricular activities. Requires 2.5 GPA and acceptance into an accredited college or university.
Vanessa Louise Hall Memorial Scholarship
Paul Burroughs Hall and Louise Carden Hall, in loving memory of their daughter, Vanessa Louise Hall, with love and appreciation for beloved teachers, staff and students at Northern High School, in consideration of their abiding interest in and love for Northern High School, and in consideration of their belief that education is extremely valuable both for individuals and the society in which they live, have established the Vanessa Louise Hall Memorial Scholarship at Northern High School.
Vanessa Louise Hall, along with her mother, brother and several aunts and uncles graduated from Northern High School. Her mother, Louise Carden Hall, taught Mathematics at Northern High School. Northern High School has been significant in Vanessa Louise Hall's family!
Vanessa was an exemplary student at Northern High School. She loved dance and was active in community service through numerous organizations. Vanessa died tragically on February 11, l998, from injuries sustained in an automobile crash. Vanessa had been accepted to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Vanessa Louise Hall Memorial Scholarship at Northern High School is a $3,000 scholarship that is renewable for three years, contingent on the recipient meeting eligibility requirements.
Selection and Eligibility Requirements:
Scholarship: To be eligible, the applicant's Weighted Grade Point Average must be greater than or equal to 3.5.
